GLP-1 medications are typically prescribed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with at least one weight-related health condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. Orlistat requires a BMI of 30 or above, or 28 or above with a weight-related condition.
No. We are unable to prescribe weight loss medication to anyone under 18. If you are under 18 and concerned about your weight, please speak to your GP.
No. GLP-1 medications and Orlistat are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are planning a pregnancy, discuss stopping treatment with your prescriber.
Conditions that may affect eligibility include type 1 diabetes, a personal or family history of thyroid cancer, a history of pancreatitis, severe kidney or liver disease, and current or past eating disorders. Our prescribing pharmacist will assess your individual circumstances during the consultation.

Treatments

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a dual-action GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist. Wegovy (semaglutide) is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Both are weekly injections. In clinical trials, Mounjaro achieved an average of 22.5% body weight loss at 72 weeks, and Wegovy achieved 20.7%. Wegovy also has proven cardiovascular benefits. Your prescribing pharmacist can advise which may be more suitable for you.
Orlistat is an oral capsule that blocks approximately 30% of dietary fat from being absorbed. It is taken with meals up to three times daily. It has been prescribed in the UK for over 20 years and is NICE-approved.
Both Mounjaro and Wegovy come in pre-filled injection pens. You inject once weekly into the thigh, abdomen, or upper arm. The pens are designed for self-administration and come with clear instructions. Most patients find the process straightforward after the first use.
GLP-1 injection pens should be stored in a fridge between 2°C and 8°C before first use. Once in use, they can be kept at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 21 days (Mounjaro) or 28 days (Wegovy). Do not freeze. Keep away from direct sunlight.

The Prescription Process

You complete a short online questionnaire about your health, weight, and medical history. This is reviewed personally by our independent prescribing pharmacist. If approved, your prescription is issued and your medication is dispensed and shipped to you. The entire process takes minutes to complete.
Every consultation is reviewed by our independent prescribing pharmacist, a qualified healthcare professional with over 25 years of experience and a postgraduate prescribing qualification. No consultation is approved without personal clinical review.
If our pharmacist determines that the requested treatment is not suitable for you, you will receive a clear explanation and a recommendation to speak with your GP. No payment is taken for consultations that are not approved.
Consultations submitted before 2pm are typically reviewed the same working day. Consultations submitted after 2pm are reviewed the following working day.

Safety

The most common side effects of GLP-1 medications are nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, and decreased appetite. These are usually mild and tend to reduce after the first few weeks as your body adjusts. Orlistat may cause oily stools and flatulence, which are manageable with a lower-fat diet.
If you experience severe or persistent symptoms, stop taking the medication and contact your GP or call 111. In a medical emergency, call 999. GLP1 Direct is not an emergency medical service.
Our prescribing pharmacist reviews your current medications as part of the consultation to check for interactions. It is important to list all medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter medicines.
